Environmental Surveillance and One Health Take Center Stage at CSIR-NEERI World Environment Day Event

A timely reminder that environmental surveillance is becoming a critical pillar of public health preparedness.

Speaking at CSIR-NEERI’s World Environment Day celebrations, Dr. Rakesh Mishra, Director, TIGS, highlighted how metagenomics and environmental surveillance can enable early detection of pathogens, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and emerging health threats. Drawing on lessons from wastewater surveillance during the COVID-19 pandemic, he emphasized the importance of the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.

The event also marked the signing of an MoU between TIGS and CSIR-NEERI to strengthen collaborative research and innovation, reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing environmental and public health solutions.
