Advancing Genetic Literacy Through Public Engagement: Genetics deCoded 2026

Celebrating World DNA Day, we hosted the second edition of ‘Genetics deCoded’ on 25th April 2026 at the Rangoli Metro Art Center, MG Road, Bengaluru as part of our genetic literacy initiative.

Bringing science beyond the lab and into public spaces, the event created an interactive platform for people from diverse backgrounds to engage with genetics in accessible and meaningful ways. Participants took part in hands-on activities such as DNA extraction from fruits, exploring inheritance patterns, and solving interactive puzzles that connected genetics to everyday health and family histories.

The event also featured “Talk to a Scientist” session, where participants engaged directly with scientists and explored career pathways in genetics. PhD scholars from our institute presented their work through posters, facilitated interactive discussions, and led engaging, game-based activities during the event, bringing in elements of gamification to make complex concepts easier to understand.

Through these activities, the event fostered curiosity, dialogue, and a deeper understanding of genetics, contributing to ongoing efforts to promote genetic literacy and public engagement with science.
