Dr. Farah Ishtiaq, Principal Scientist, TIGS explains how sewage surveillance helps to understand the health of a community and what can be done to improve the public health system. Using genomic sequencing wastewater samples are tested for pathogens which will inform about the viral load, and even the variations of the virus. Wastewater based epidemiology is an early warning tool for any pandemic or public health emergency. In this episode, Farah talks about her experience in analyzing the wastewater of Bengaluru city from open drains and sewage network.
