2025 SAGE program ambassadors visit to TIGS

✨We were delighted to host the senior and junior ambassadors of the SAGE Program at TIGS, Bengaluru!✨

During their visit, the ambassadors explored some of our key research facilities including the insectary and greenhouse, gaining first-hand insight into the critical role these environments play in addressing challenges related to public health and agriculture.

The visit was enriched with interactions with our scientists, who shared how their work is driving innovation with societal impact:

🔬 Dr. Satyaprakash Pandey provided the ambassadors with an overview of TIGS’s research landscape, highlighting the institute’s multidisciplinary approach to solving societies pressing problems using science.
🦠 Dr. Shivranjani Moharir discussed the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), efforts in rare genetic disorders research, and environmental surveillance initiatives aimed at safeguarding public health.
🧫 Dr. Mansi Malik shared insights into the importance of clinical surveillance for vector-borne diseases and the challenges of tracking AMR in clinical settings.
🌾 Dr. Sampath Kumar introduced the ambassadors to integrated pest management strategies that reduce chemical usage and promote sustainable agriculture.
🌾 Dr. Kamal Malukani spoke about the use of mutation breeding to biofortify rice by enhancing its iron, zinc, protein, and vitamin content to address nutritional deficiencies.

The SAGE ambassadors left with a deeper understanding of how science intersects with society and the environment. Their enthusiasm and curiosity were truly inspiring, and we look forward to continued engagement with future science leaders!
